This Weekly Reflection features a powerful video reflection by The Rev. Adrienne Reedy, an artist, musician, speaker, and Cornelius Corps Board members. Please take time to read the following introduction by Adrienne and watch the video. It is a heartfelt and important message for this challenging time.
A couple of weeks ago, I made a trip to Washington D.C., visiting the African American Museum and, the very next day, the National Archives to see the U.S. Constitution on display. I wasn’t prepared for the deep emotional despair that lingered even days after that trip.
This video, inspired by that initial reflection, is rooted in the emotional tension created by confronting those two foundational sites. It is in moments of profound sorrow that scripture becomes essential, and I was reminded of what Paul wrote in Romans 5: 3-5 “There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!” (MSG)
